Working in fashion for the past 6 years, I’ve gotten used to the external pressures that go along with being part of the industry. Working as an independent designer for 4 years, I feel that places me in a position of authority on the subject of beauty. Whatever I say is beautiful, has an influence on how the rest of the fashion world, and beyond, sees beauty.

As a petite woman, with no exercise regimen, I’ve grown to love my naturally-shaped body with its curves and lady humps. Sometimes it takes a little mental discipline to keep from comparing myself to the skeeny model-girls with rosebud boobs, but I make the distinction, they are models, and I am not. While many people think skinny is sexy, there are all kinds of bodies out there. If you are healthy and confident, chances are, somebody cool will find you sexy.

The model’s job, and it is not an easy one, is to make the clothes look good. By knowing how to pose for the camera, connecting with the photographer, and by maintaining a thin physique through diet and exercise. My job, on the other hand, is to make beautiful clothes. By researching trends, sourcing materials, and continually improving my knowledge of construction and patternmaking. I love who I am, and make the distinction between my creative aesthetic and my own personal beauty standard. How about you?
